UMM AL QAIWAIN : Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, officially inaugurated the seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant called “NAQA’A” in the Emirate of Umm Al Qaiwain. This plant is one of the largest seawater desalination projects in the world using SWRO technology.
With the capacity to produce 150 million gallons of desalinated water per day, this facility adopts an independent producer approach. The Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, and other high-ranking officials attended the ceremony.
During the event, Sheikh Mansour received a detailed explanation from the company’s CEO and project team about the station’s mechanism and implementation stages. The first phase, which began in the second half of 2021, saw the station operating experimentally at a daily production capacity of 50 million gallons. The second phase, completed by the end of 2022, allowed the station to operate at its full capacity of 150 million gallons per day.
Etihad Water and Electricity, Mubadala, and ACWA Power from Saudi Arabia collaborated on this significant project. “We are proud of the completion of ‘NAQA’A, which reflects the UAE’s commitment and the leadership’s vision in ensuring sustainable water resources for future generations,” stated Sheikh Mansour.
